3 credits (Fall 2020, 2021, 2022). Overview of major philosophical tenets and its impact on the PRTM field. Current theories and philosophies in recreation as they are influenced by and have influence on leisure and the changing environment in America. Students develop their own professional philosophies of recreation and leisure.

COMMUNITY BASED PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH - QUALITATIVE APPROACHES
3 credits. (Spring 2022). Examination of community-based research principles, methodology and an overview of major data collection approaches.

DIVERSITY IN PRTM
(Spring 2021, Fall 2022). Overview of diversity and its role in a global society for the field of PRTM. Advanced topics in serving diverse populations in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, including lifespan, cultural and global perspectives, as well as other dimensions of diversity.

INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL JUSTICE
3 credits. (Fall 2021, 2022). Cross disciplinary introduction to social justice and its role in non-profit organizations. Under agency supervision, students spend 60 hours observing and implementing activities, events, and programs in a nonprofit, faith-based, grassroots, or organization approved by instructor. To be taken Pass/No Pass only. Preq: NPL 3000.

PROFESSION OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEADERSHIP
Students create and submit a digital portfolio as evidence of academic and experiential mastery of the ten core competencies of youth development leadership. Competencies include growth and development, youth programs, observation and assessment, family, school, and community relationships, safety and wellness, and youth engagement.

GRANTSMANSHIP
3 credits. (Summer 2022). Overview Grantsmanship and proposal development for funding at federal, state, local government, foundations, and private. Students conduct searches to identify youth-related funding sources. They write proposals to include purpose, rationale, background information, literature review, identification of collaborators/partners, budget, budget justification and human subjects review. Preq: Admission to MS in Youth Development Leadership Program.
